Police warn of Linden ‘flasher’

MALANSHOF – Female joggers were accosted by a man who exposed himself to them.

Linden Community Police Forum sent a stern warning to runners, to always run in groups. This comes after a man was questioned by police on 12 September after allegedly exposing himself to women running in the morning close to the Randburg Sports Complex, Malanshof.

“I was leaving the sports ground, following a police car that was leaving. As I approached a stop sign I saw a group of joggers running across the road screaming, shouting and appeared animated,” Linden CPF chairperson Lara Bath said. Upon further investigation she found that there was a man who was exposing himself to female passers.

She immediately took action and called the patrol car that had just left the sports ground to come to the scene and within two minutes they had arrived.

Bath said that the police questioned the man, took down his details and sent him off with a stern warning. Bath urged female runners to always run in a group in order to avoid such occurrences.

“The Linden Police has increased patrols around the Randburg Sports Complex to curb such incidents from happening,” Bath said. She mentioned that there had been numerous sightings of the flasher in the Linden police precinct that were reported to the Linden CPF but that she doubted that the man would repeat the offence as the police took down his details.

Spokesperson for the Linden Police Station Constable Carol Mulamu confirmed the incident and said that a case had not been opened because no one had laid a charge yet. Mulamu added that if anyone witnessed the man flashing again, they should come forward and open a case. “If residents come to open a case the matter will be investigated and an arrest will be made,” she promised.
