Ferndale High’s soccer boys fail to win tournament

FERNDALE – Ferndale High School's U15 and U19 soccer boys recently participated at the Johannesburg Central League Tournament.

Ferndale High School’s U15 and U19 soccer teams recently took part in the Johannesburg Central Soccer League (JCSL).

The top four boys’ teams in the JCSL were invited to a soccer tournament held at Wendywood High School in Sandton on 9 September.

The aim of the tournament was to wrap up the league season which was mainly dominated by Ferndale.

However, during the top four tournament spectacle, things did not look good for Ferndale as they were defeated in most of their games. Their U15 team suffered defeat when they collided with Noordwyk, Rooseveldt and Athlone Boys’ high schools.

Meanwhile, the U19 team drew with all the teams they played against which included Queens, Midrand and Marlboro high schools.

According to the soccer manager at Ferndale High Ontlametse Thipe, the school is proud of the overall performance of the boys, which surpassed their expectations throughout the season.

“Even though the financial constraints are always there, pupils went out of their way to make a success of this endeavour,” said Thipe.

Thipe added, “Their commitment and passion for soccer is the driving force to put Ferndale High School on the map.”
