GALLERY: Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned

KYA SAND – A scorned lover sets a fire that leaves 69 people homeless.

On the evening of 10 August at 11pm the Kya Sand Pipeline Informal Settlement was set ablaze by a scorned lover.

Fire trucks from Hunters Hill Fire Department responded to the blaze which took hours to finally put out.

Community leader for Pipeline Informal Settlement, Mary Makosane confirmed that about 25 shacks have been destroyed leaving 69 people homeless.

Pastor Evans Phiri from Judah Africa Community Development Project has also put measures into place to mobilise the disaster relief effort in the community.

Ward 96 councillor Matome Mafokwane said he is very worried about how the accident happened.

“Apparently, a woman found her lover with another person and then set the place alight,” he said.

No injuries have been reported. The fire is still under investigation but it is reported that the three people allegedly involved have fled the scene.

According to Mafokwane, this is definitely attempted murder and the law should take its course.

The 69 people left homeless will be housed by Judah Africa Community Development Project until rebuilding is complete.
