RANDPARK RIDGE – Seven workers are taken to hospital after an accident on Beyers Naudé Drive.

Traffic was brought to a standstill on the corner of Beyers Naudé Drive and John Vorster Road on 11 August, as two vehicles collided into each other injuring seven people.

The injuries appeared to be minor.

The driver of the bakkie, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that he was waiting to cross the intersection when the accident occurred.

“I was on my way to work in Parkhurst this morning and it was a bit misty so the road was not so clear,” he said.

One of the workers who was sitting at the back of the open bakkie said that he was sleeping and was awoken by a loud bang as the bakkie collided with the other car.

Another worker said that he was shocked at what had happened as he watched the whole thing unfold.

“I thought the other car would stop in time but it didn’t and our car was hit, but not too badly, it’s the other car that has been damaged the worst,” he said.

The bakkie was carrying nine workers at the back. “I didn’t get to see much but I’m shaken by this accident,” he added.

The driver of the other car was visibly shaken as various emergency services workers attended to the scene.

She added that she was deeply upset by what happened.

Emergency services took the injured to hospital.

Metro Police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said that the cause of the accident would be investigated.

On the same morning, a pedestiran was hit and killed on the corner of Beyers Naudé Drive and Duiker Avenue.

Furthermore, in another accident on the corner of Beyers Naudé Drive and Peter Road, Zandspruit, an Avanza and an orange Ford collided. Police at the scene reported no injuries.
