UPDATE: Police are still looking for family of the homeless man

KENSINGTON B – Police have received a few leads from the residents that will probably help them reunite the homeless man with his family.

Randburg SAPS appreciate the efforts of a few people who have contacted them with valuable information that might help to trace the family of the homeless man.

They are still calling on the members of the public to assist where they could.

Sergeant Dipuo Maphanga from the Randburg Police Social Crime Prevention Unit said people were contacting them.

“So far three people have contacted us and we only have an email of a person who might probably help us find the family,” said Sgt Maphanga.

She said the man used to sleep adjacent to his family home according to the information they had received.

“We will visit the family this afternoon (30 July) and find out if it is his (the homeless man’s) family.”

The homeless man was loitering around the streets of Randburg and seeking food in dustbins before the police arrested him on 28 July.

He was sent to the Helen Joseph Hospital in Rossmore for a mental assessment.

“We have not yet obtained the results to find out if the man is mentally ill or not,” concluded Maphanga.
