GALLERY: Rugby legends enjoy golf day
RANDPARK – The tournament was hosted with the aim of highlighting the work done by the Rugby legends on and off the field.
South African Rugby Legends partnered with the Springbok Supporters Club (SSC) and their sponsors on 23 July to participate on the annual exclusive golf day at Randpark Golf Club.
SSC works with the South African Rugby Union (SARU), to help bring thousands of supporters closer to the Springbok players through unique experiences and events.
The tournament was hosted with the aim of highlighting the work done by the rugby legends on and off the field.
The rugby legends were dedicated to giving back to their communities and guiding the young people.
Some of the rugby legends, who participated in the competition, include Jannie de Beer, skipper Badenhorst, Jaco van der Westhuysen and Mac Masina along with the various sponsors.
Julia Duminy reckoned the theme of the golf day was to acknowledge the legends for the accomplishments they have achieved for the country.
“We, as the official Springbok Supporters Club, are honoured to be associated with such a magnificent organisation,” Duminy said.
She added that legends contributed to their projects thorough coaching, training, fundraising, organising matches and ‘passing on the passion’ of the game.
“Their enthusiasm for ‘giving back’ to the rugby community is critical to our success. As an organisation, we strive to give them a home base for building careers off the field, supported by the companionship, loyalty and shared passion of fellow legends,” she said.
The SA Rugby Legends Association is made up of past South African rugby players and other hard-working individuals who have contributed and supported rugby from the side of the field. The aim of the non-profit organisation is to develop rugby at a grassroots level and supporting the needs and interests of the legends.
