Randburg CPF wont stop oversight

JOBURG – Randburg CPF has established and maintains a mutual understanding with the police to fight crimes in the community.

Randburg Community Police Forum (CPF) maintained they have a mutual working relationship with the police despite the suspension of all the Gauteng CPF’s oversight functions into SAPS transparency.

CPF chairperson Sandy Andrew said the oversight committee looks at the problems that are reported to the police by members of the community.

Andrew was concerned about how crime in communities would be addressed if the people at top brass were taking decisions that could negatively affect communities on the ground. “The oversight of the station has been a function ever since I first joined the CPF as PR and there has never been a complaint from SAPS,” she explained.

According to Andrew, the CPF had an excellent relationship with SAPS and the boundaries were unspoken but understood. She was adamant that the CPF will not stop its oversight functions.

“It is our duty to support both the station members and the community they serve,” she said.

She added the Randburg SAPS have always established that the CPF was their champions and their concerns were voiced only when there was a need.

Gauteng SAPS provincial commissioner Lieutenant General Lesetja Mothiba suspended the oversight functions of all Community Policing Forums in the province.

Honeydew executive CPF chairperson Toney Botes said “Let’s not blow the matter out of proportion. There is a meeting between the MEC and the Provincial Police Commissioner.” He said he will comment after the meeting occurred.

Details: Randburg CPF 082 433 6085.
