A City of Joburg Integrated Citizen Outreach Programme was held at Randridge Mall, Randpark Ridge, on 29 June.
Residents, community structures, business stakeholders, Ward 126 committee members and active members within the ward engaged in the programme.
The programme was developed by the Citizen Relationship and Urban Management (CRUM) Department in the City of Johannesburg
The objectives of the programme were to reach out to communities through direct contact with community structures, raise awareness of City service offerings, and educate communities on compliance with bylaws as well as maintaining a clean, green and safe environment.
Ward 126 committee member, Jan Bonderheyee, said the outreach programme extensively assisted with investigating complaints of various residents. “The challenges of most people living opposite the mall were attended,” said Bonderheyee.
The Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) and Johannesburg Water conducted public education within the parking area at the Mall.
Health department in Region C conducted free health screening while Revenue and Customer Relations Management assisted with billing queries. The Integrated Service Delivery Department of CRUM assisted with service delivery complaints.
It was also an opportunity for residents to receive Ward 126 profile flyers. Illegal posters and goods, and fallen street light poles were removed. Damaged signed boards and roads were attended to.
Region C Citizen Relationship and Urban Management Community Engagement Officer, Cecile Retief, said the programme was part of the Integrated Development Plan (IDP) of the City of Johannesburg focusing on engaged active citizenry. “Inspections were also done on problem properties along John Vorster Road,” said Retief.
