GALLERY: OIivedale Tennis Club wraps up their annual championship

OLIVEDALE – Olivedale Tennis Club runs the tournament to establish the best players within the club.

Olivedale Tennis Club hosted their annual championship finals on 27 June ending the tournament that started in mid-May.

The club runs the tournament to establish their best players. Tournament and practice sessions signified the diversity of players within the team.

Philip Lawson and Anil Mooljee triumphed after beating Brandon Mitchell and Klaus Vogel 6–3; 6–2 during the men’s double finals.

Esther Martyne and Louisa Lubbe won the women’s double finals.

Vogel said the tournament was strengthening the club and attracting new members to join. “Since the appointment of our new coach, Philip Lawson, the club had been attracting new players and youngsters.”

He added that most of the team players were also competing in the Gauteng Tennis League. The club has also recently initiated a Junior Coaching Clinic. This programme provides an opportunity for youngsters to play and enhance their tennis skills on Sundays.

Lawson said the team was fully supportive and committed to grow tennis in the Olivedale area. “This is a family oriented club and they are very supportive,” he said.
