Curro Aurora scoops 14 medals in karate championships

SUNDOWNER – Curro Aurora Goju Karate Academy pupils scoop medals at the Goju Kai Gauteng Karate Championships.

Curro Aurora Goju Karate Academy pupils recently participated in the Goju Kai Gauteng Karate Championships held in Linksfield on 20 June.

The event is held annually by the Goju Kai group in order to select a Gauteng team to attend their style’s national championships.

Dojos from all over Gauteng sent through their best teams to the championships and the top four pupils in each division then go on to represent the Gauteng team at the SA Goju Kai Karate-do National Championships which will be held in Stellenbosch this year.

According to Sensei Russel Sim from Curro, every member of the Curro Aurora team was medalled at the Gauteng tournament.

In all the dojos the team brought home 14 medals – 4 gold, 6 silver and 4 bronze medals.

“Tevyn Pretorius achieved a silver medal for kumite and a bronze medal for kata; Pieter Kruger achieved a silver medal for kata and a bronze medal for kumite; Leven Reddy won double gold in his kata and kumite division; Jared and Joel Jainarain both won bronze medals in their kumite division; Jordyn Pretorius won double gold in his kata and kumite divisions; Jason Mdaki won a silver medal for kumite; Liorah Jainarain won silver medals for kata and kumite in her age group, and Priyanke Reddy won a silver medal for kumite,” Sim recounted.
