GALLERY: It’s all about fun!

RADIOKOP – Snuggles Junior College taught their Grade R class that being in business can be fun.

The Grade R class at Snuggles Junior College, Radiokop hosted their very own market day. The idea was to get the Grade R class to make or buy goodies that can be sold for under R10 to the other kids and parents for a profit. “Children need to learn to be financially savvy. The market day was to give the children an opportunity to work with money and learn more about it. Mostly it was all about them having fun,” said Snuggles Junior College principal Megan Hunt. Ice-cream, cupcakes, biscuits, cakes and other yummy delights were sold.

Each of the children was given a certificate and medal after their successful day as entrepreneurs. This was to commend them on their wonderful achievement of running their own business for the day. The overall winner was Madison Bolttler for making the most profit on the day. “I made chocolate-covered marshmallows dipped in sprinkles, popcorn and rice crispy treats,” said excited Bolttler. Her mother Noleen Bolttler said that it was a team effort getting everything ready and she is extremely proud of her daughter.

One of the other parents Jason Kennedy, who sold ice-cream with his daughter Hannah, said the day was a success and commended the school for initiating an event that would help the children become more responsible with their money. Hannah said her favourite part of the whole day was just being with her friends and selling to them.

“The children thoroughly enjoyed the whole process of learning about money and putting the day together, I am extremely proud of all of them,” said Grade R teacher Joy Dickie.
