GALLERY: Bowls for charity
BOSKRUIN – Children's home benefits from bowls tournament at Randburg Bowls Club.
It was all laughs and smiles when the Randburg Bowls Club hosted a tournament for charity on 5 April. Organiser Vanda Clarke arranges one such social tournament every year at the club in Boskruin.
This year, money and goods were raised for The Salvation Army Firlands Children’s Home in Linden. Bowlers were placed in random teams of three, and played 18 ends. Prizes were awarded to the top three teams. “It was such a great day,” said Nancy Mawdsley, whose team came second. “It was good that someone will benefit from it as well.”
Clarke said that a great deal of clothing, non-perishable food, soccer balls, pens and crayons, and books were collected. R1 000 was also raised, and will be spent on more goods to be donated. “It was good turnout,” Clarke added. “The tournament was brilliant. Everyone enjoyed.”
