City Power slow to respond

Live wires left exposed for three weeks

Poor service delivery from City Power posed a dangerous health threat to pedestrians in Blairgowrie.

Resident Darryn Newcombe said, “City Power dug up a main power cable on the corner of Fir Street and Connel Road on 30 April. It had left the wires exposed until 21 May.”

He added, “My main concern was for the safety of children and passer-by’s. Cable theft was also one of my concerns as the wires were left uncovered.”

Blairgowrie Community Association Chairperson, Jed Kemery said, “Within the last month cable theft in the area dropped significantly because City Power appointed a unmarked vehicle to monitor the area.”

Efforts were made to contact City Power spokesperson Sol Masolo on 29 and 31 May to receive a comment on the situation but no feedback was received at time of going to press.
