GALLERY: Criminal driving on West Avenue

FERNDALE – Taxi drivers drive on the wrong side of the road, cause fear.

A resident took photos of taxis driving on the wrong side of the road on West Avenue, Ferndale.

This follows complaints by residents, and them taking photos and videos of people driving in the wrong lane in Fontainebleau, Weltevreden Park and Olivedale.

Metro Police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar responded by saying, “Driving on the wrong side of the road is a contravention of the National Road Traffic Act” worth a R1 000 fine.

The resident, who wishes to remain anonymous for his safety, said of West Avenue, “It is only a matter of time that road rage is going to turn to murder as the taxis push you off the road if you are in the on-coming lane… I have been keeping a firearm in the car since [it started].” The resident said that if Metro Police were to wait in an unmarked vehicle next to the road, they could fine many drivers breaking the law. He added that drivers do this more often between 4 and 5pm.
