Pikitup to remove discarded furniture
RANDBURG – Pikitup aims to reduce waste in Windsor West and East
Pikitup has recently announced that in future it will pick up discarded bit items such as furniture, if and when requested by residents at Windsor East and West.
This is an attempt by Pikitup to reduce waste as such items will be recycled.
“The formalising of such a service shows that my constant requesting and nagging eventually paid pay off,” said Ward 98 councillor Laurette van Zijl.
Van Zijl also commended the Randburg Depot for always being helpful. They [Randburg Depot] responded as best they could to my requests to pick up furniture and other litter on the pavements of Windsor. However, sometimes streets were left out and I had to relog the request,” said Van Zijl.
These pick ups will mean that residents can now take responsibility for their own waste and do their own request. ”There will also be no excuses if some items were left behind,” she added.
Van Zijl warned that residents must behave responsibly and not abuse the system.
She advised that recyclables must be sorted at source, general litter must be placed in wheelie bins and residents must refrain from throwing litter on the streets.
