Teachers of Cooper College reach out to Takane Kidz

BLOUBOSRAND – Teachers of Cooper College give a helping hand to a pre-school in Bloubosrand.

Takane Kidz Pre-School is a school of 30 kids that is run by the big-hearted, Caroline Libongani-Ngwenya.

Libongani-Ngwenya has been running the school for seven years and eventually received NPO status in January 2010.

The children’s ages range between one and six years old, 15 of them coming from extremely challenging circumstances.

She approached Cooper College, for assistance with lesson plans for her little wards, and teachers decided to investigate further.

“After meeting the children, it went without saying that they wanted to roll their sleeves up and get involved.

The teachers now visit the school every week, taking food and playing with the children. Each visit is made all the more special by the introduction of different activities in order to keep them stimulated and help them to engage with any environment more confidently.

On 21 March, Cooper College teachers intend to arrange a fun outing for Caroline and the children.

While the children are away, the teachers will be doing an “extreme make-over” at the property – painting, cleaning up the garden and generally re-organising the school.

They hope to surprise them all with a fresh, new look!

If you would like to contribute to the school, they have need of the following:

· A computer and printer

· A removable sign outside the gate

· Shade netting for the children to play under

· Artificial lawn; and

· Blankets.

If you would like to get involved on an ongoing basis, you are invited to ‘adopt a child’ by pledging R500 per month. This will be used to pack a food

parcel for some of the more destitute children’s household (it will include basics such as tea, sugar, milk, rice, lotion and toilet paper).
