Help build the future of the kids

KYA SANDS – The Build the Future Pre-School holds a work day to help build their little ones.

Build the Future Pre-school held its work day on 14 February, when they planted vegetables and cleaned their garden.

This pre-school is managed by a non-governmental organisation, Build the Future and it operates from two containers.

The main purpose for this activity was to encourage community involvement on Valentine’s Day.

Vegetables that sprout up will be used to feed the 45 children that attend the pre-school.

On Valentine’s Day, they received a donated jungle gym that was revamped and the school was also cleaned up. Build the Future Pre-school is located near the Pipeline Informal settlement and caters for the children who live in the area.

People came out to help and planted spinach, beetroot, tomatoes, corn and butternut.

Director of Build the Future Phillip Shapiro said, ”I am very happy that the parents of the kids were here in full force to help. It is encouraging. For our country we all should be doing something. We should not say what is the government doing, but what are we doing to help?”

Shapiro urged anyone who would like to make a donation to please contact him.

Principal Elizabeth Sathekge explained that she is very happy with the work that was done but,”I still need people to donate anything, especially food and clothing so that it can help the kids here.”

Volunteer Lee-Anne Steyn said, ”Phillip really just needs anyone who is willing to give their time to help out. I try and come at least once a month just to help out. It is really just about making a difference in a kid’s life.”
