Vagrants arrested during a security clean-up

KYA SANDS – Pipeline Informal Settlement bust for Marijuana plants and for illegal sales of alcohol

Night Guard Security company and members of the Douglasdale SAPS conducted a clean-up operation on 23 January.

The targeted area was Sector 2 in Douglasdale.

The objectives of the operation was to locate illegal vagrants, the illegal selling of alcohol and narcotics.

The first part of the operation consisted of finding and arresting illegal vagrants.

“About 56 vagrants were arrested and processed,’’ said Michael Shipton, of the Night Guard Security force (who was on the scene).

According to Shipton, the second phase of the operation was searching various shacks in the Pipeline Informal Settlement.

An illegal alcohol distributor was arrested and his alcohol was seized by SAPS and taken to be destroyed.

A large quantity of marijuana was found growing on the side of a bank – it was seized and taken to the Douglasdale Police Station to be destroyed.

This is before Ward 96 Councillor Matome Mafokwane went to the Pipeline Informal Settlement on 26 January to try and get ideas to better the area and stop the illegal dumping that is happening there see previous article.

Comment from the Douglasdale SAPS is still awaited.
