Joburg Water cannot confirm when water will return in Blairgowrie

BLAIRGOWRIE – Johannesburg Water does not know when water will be restored to suburbs.

Johannesburg Water said that it cannot confirm when water will be restored in Blairgowrie, Bordeaux and

Kensington B.

Residents woke up to a dry 15 January, after a burst water pipe disrupted water delivery to the three suburbs.

“We have a burst that is affecting the supply to [the] Kensington B reservoir as well as parts of Blairgowrie,” said the entity’s external communications officer Eleanor Mavimbela.

“Our teams are currently busy on site with repairs. We do not have an estimated time at the moment as to when water will be restored.”

According to Bordeaux South Resident’s Association chairperson Elinor Bodinger the suburb has suffered about 20 burst water pipes in the last month, and many residents do not have running water.

Bordeaux Primary School is also without running water.

KenBrink Resident’s Association chairperson Sandy Heidstra said that there are no water tanks in her suburb, and residents are in desperate need of water.

She claimed that she tried phoning Johannesburg Water, but had no success. She sent an email to them but is still waiting for a reply.

Blairgowrie Community Association committee member Gail Jelley said that there were “massive water bursts” in Blairgowrie over the last two months.

Ward 102 councillor David Potter said that the entity is working on the problem and everyone should have water soon.
