Douglasdale suspect arrested

DOUGLASDALE- A suspect was arrested after allegedly shooting a member of the Douglasdale Community Watch, and he will appear in Randburg Magistrates Courts soon.

A 37-year-old man from Tembisa was arrested on 11 January after allegedly shooting a member of the Douglasdale Community Watch.

The neighbourhood watch team responded to a house alarm in the area. Two suspects were spotted, one fired a handgun.

A 29-year-old member of neighbourhood watch was shot in the upper region of his body.

Douglasdale SAPS spokesperson Daniel Mavimbela commented, “The police were called to the scene immediately. They cordoned and searched the neighbourhood. One suspect was caught and a handgun was recovered. Its serial number has been filed off. A manhunt has been launched for the second suspect. “

The injured man is being treated in hospital and is in a stable condition.

The suspect will face charges of attempted murder and unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition. He will appear in the Randburg Magistrates Courts soon.
