NORTH RIDING – The riders for aSOMEtism send out their thanks to the supporters of their worthy cause.

This year auSOMEtism, a charity for autism, had 80 riders participating in the Momentum 94.7 cycle challenge on 17 November.

Of the 80 riders who participated, six were riding unicycles, one rode a tall bike and three riders were on single speed bicycles with trolleys attached

to the front end of their bicycles, sponsored by Saverite Supermarkets.

”We ride all these different bicycles and unicycles because children on the autism spectrum think a little differently. One of our mantra’s is ‘different not less’ so we are trying to prove that doing something differently does not make you any less and you can achieve the very same outcome if you persevere,” said Shaun Murphy, auSOMEtism team leader.

The group is trying to raise funds and awareness for this worthy cause. The funds will be going towards the Faery Glen Therapy Centre’s

new life skills room and sports field where equipment will be needed to get it up and running.

Murphy said, ”We are looking for ongoing support, we have earned around R40 000 so far with monies still coming in.”
