Porsche Road Rage lawyer considers all possibilities

KENSINGTON B – Lawyer for man charged with common assault and malicious damage to property says a settlement is an option.

The lawyer for the man charged with common assault and malicious damage to property for his actions during a road rage incident on Witkoppen Road, Fourways, in July, said that the case is still in its “early days”. Also, the defence is considering all possibilities, including making a monetary settlement with the State.

He said this on 11 November, after the case was postponed for the fifth time at the Randburg Magistrates’ Court, Kensington B, to 26 November. The accused was filmed in a video that went viral on the internet, where he (a passenger of a Porsche) tussles with a Volkswagen driver through the car window (allegedly punching him), kicking the vehicle and throwing the driver’s car keys away (see previous article).

The accused’s lawyer, Karl Schüler of Schüler Heerschop Pienaar Attorneys, explained that the case has taken so long to get under way because the State “wants to do a proper investigation”. “We have still not received copies of the docket and other documents,” he said. “It is still early days.” He added that he and his client are “considering all possibilities” to resolve the matter satisfactorily.
