Door-to-door drug-awareness campaign

A fight toward a drug-free community

The Local Drug Action Committee (LDAC), City of Johannesburg and the Provincial Department of Social Development held a door-to-door campaign on 4 to 8 November in Windsor.

The aim of the campaign was to create awareness about the dangers of drug use and the launch of LDAC will be held on 15 November at Robin Hills Primary School in Kalk Street, Randburg.

The campaign helped to gain information from the community of Windsor so that they can be served in a better and informed way according to their needs.

Sharon Peters, LDAC committee chairperson said, “Windor has been plagued with a scourge of drugs and that has propelled the establishment of LDAC – they hope to eradicate the elements which are causing the problem.”

Law enforcement will be helping the cause by conducting raids.

Members of the committee, community and City of Johannesburg officials were part of the campaign process and about 500 surveys have been conducted.

Addicts will be informed about the rehabilitation centres that could help them better their lives.

The target audience is the entire Windsor community – East and West and the surrounding areas. The main focus areas will be Beatrice Street in Windsor East and Alice Street in Windsor West.

Clinics in the areas will also be a focus.

“The committee encourages the community to become involved in every way possible to make this a collective action in our efforts to eradicate drugs,” added Peters.

LDAC hopes to accomplish a drug-free community and believe that it can in happen!
