Christmas crime warning

RANDBURG – Douglasdale Police embark on visible policing operations during festive season.

Douglasdale Police are embarking on a programme of increased visible policing during the festive season. “Douglasdale has adopted a stance of zero tolerance of crime throughout the festive period,” said Douglasdale Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Balan Muthan.

“We’ve embarked on numerous crime prevention operations to make us more visible in the area to safeguard residents and their property.”

He said that certain crimes are expected more during the holiday season, namely: drinking and driving, people “causing nuisance” at pubs, and road traffic offences.

Although the station does not expect more burglaries, Muthan said that before going on holiday, residents must make sure their gates are locked, and alarm systems are checked and working.

Animals should also be left at animal clinics or an SPCA, and house sitters arranged.

When shopping, residents should not carry large amounts of cash to avoid being targeted for a robbery.

Instead they should pay with banking cards.

Contractors who employ labourers should also pay them electronically.

When parking at a shopping centre, residents should physically check that their vehicles are locked. Furthermore, Douglasdale Sector 4 manager Constable Maq Dlodlo asked residents to contact the station if they see any sign of corruption or crime.
