After humble beginnings four years ago with three participants riding the 94.7km route, team auSOMEtism has ballooned into a team determined to raise awareness with just under 80 participants in this year’s event.

auSOMEtism began as an idea to spread the word…kids with autism are AWESOME! Although they think and often times behave differently to neuro- typical children, kids on the spectrum can do awesome things – albeit in a different fashion.

auSOMEtism has since become a registered non-profit organisation and with the help of the wonderful principal and staff at the Faery Glen Therapy Centre, hopes to open and run a teenage learning facility for children older than 12. The educational facilities for children on the spectrum are limited –even more so for teenagers and young adults. We aim to raise funds to keep this project running, allowing our children to blossom and grow in the correct environment.

The learning facility was set in motion last year with the Momentum 94.7 as the platform for our fundraising and awareness campaign. This year we are striving for bigger and better things and hope to come close to or even surpass our goal of raising R100 000.

We have assembled a team of cyclists prepared to show that being different does not mean you can’t achieve your goals. This year will see five unicycle participants, a tall bike nicknamed Cogzilla as well as three bicycles merged with shopping trolleys designed to emulate Dash – the mascot of our title sponsor Saverite Supermarkets.

This will be the second year running that the amazing bunch from Saverite Supermarkets has sponsored cycle jerseys and, most importantly, used their reach to assist us in achieving our goal. The rest of our spectacular team is made up with mountain bikes, road bikes and possibly even a tandem. No matter what type of cycle is used on the day, the wonderful group that has signed on to help us is ready to raise awareness and hopefully, teach a little acceptance, and for that we are eternally grateful

Please come and support Team auSOMEtism on 16 November, riding the streets of Jozi. We appreciate all the love and support and if possible,

donations are most certainly welcome – banking details are available on request.
