Case of man accused of stabbing wife postponed

Bryanston stabbing case postponed to the 2 December while he awaits mental assessment.

The man accused of stabbing his wife to death appeared in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court on 30 September before Magistrate Annie Hambrock. According to defence attorney Tshivase, ”[the accused] was number 109 on the waiting list at the Sterkfontein Psychiatric Ward.” The list for the beds available is very long and as a result, the case has been postponed to 2 December. The accused remains in custody until his next court appearance.

Although the man’s identity is known to Randburg Sun, it cannot be released until he has pleaded on public record.

The case was postponed to 30 September for further investigation and also to allow the defendant to undergo a 30-day mental

assessment before he would be allowed to plead. He had remained in custody in order to find a medical institution to facilitate his mental assessment, details of which will be revealed during the trial. The accused’s wife was found bleeding to death from multiple stab wounds in Bryanston on 16 August and allegedly implicated her husband in her dying moments. The accused was then arrested in Pietermaritzburg three days later after attempting to commit suicide by overdosing on an unknown substance.
