Randpark Ridge featured highly in the area-specific crime hotspots in Honeydew Sector 1 for the month of August. But this is no real cause for alarm, said the sector’s community policing forum. The hotspots were announced by the forum’s vice chairperson Roger Costopoulos at the last forum meeting at The Barn Christian Fellowship, Boskruin, on 8 September.
The hotspots were:
- Housebreaking and robberies: Randpark Ridge and Bromhof
- Robberies with a weapon: Randpark Ridge
- Robberies with a firearm: Randpark Ridge
- Business robberies: Northgate Shopping Centre and Banbury Cross Village (in Northwold)
- Drug-related activities: Banbury Cross Village (in Northwold) and Golden Harvest Park
- Theft out of a motor vehicle: Randpark Ridge
Most vehicles reported stolen were Volkswagen Polos, then Toyota vehicles, then Mercedes-Benz panel vans.
Costopoulos said that Randpark Ridge did have the most crime in the sector during August, but there was no need to panic. “That is just where the spike was but it is not out of hand,” he said. The forum’s chairperson Greg Pearce explained that Randpark Ridge forms the bulk of the sector, and the fact that more crimes were reported in Randpark Ridge than any other suburb in the sector is no cause for alarm. However, he said that street robberies were a problem in the suburb.
Areas in Honeydew Sector 1 include Boskruin, Bromhof, Bush Hill Estate Agricultural Holdings (AH), Glen Dayson AH, Hunter’s Hill AH, Kelly Ridge, Northhgate, North Riding AH, Northwold, Randpark Ridge, Sonneglans, Strijdom Park and Sundowner.
