JRA assesses Bloubosrand infrastructure

BLOUBOSRAND – Ward 96 councillor Matome Mofokwane and JRA addresses residents’ road concerns.

Ward 96 councillor Matome Mofokwane scheduled a meeting with Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) on 5 September in order to assess the current infrastructure in Bloubosrand and surrounding areas like Kya Sand.

Mofokwane stated the assessment was conducted in order to address the concerns of residents regarding the state of roads and what JRA could do to improve service delivery in the area as part of the City of Joburg’s new Jozi@Work programme.

“The selected roads will form part of a Region A resurface project, which will take place this financial year,” said Mofokwane. “A number of roads need resurfacing because patching potholes is no longer an option.”

Two areas of great concern to the officials were earmarked for repairs in the near future, these being Agnes Road and the intersection between Bernie and Precision roads in the industrial part of Kya Sand.

Kya Sand Association chairperson Hans Heyneke was grateful for the assistance Mofokwane and JRA provide.

“The intersection [Bernie and Precision roads] is mainly used by heavy-duty vehicles,” Heyneke continued. “Its surface has deteriorated rapidly in the last year.”

JRA has, in the meantime, committed to temporarily patch earmarked roads before complete resurfacing of these roads can be scheduled.
