Community cleans up Fontainebleau Bike Park.

FONTAINEBLEAU - Residents take back their bike park with a massive clean up.

Residents of Fontainebleau and the cubs of Robinhills Scout Group initiated a clean-up of the local bike park, organised by Natalie Morton an active member of the community.

She remarked that, “We want our children back in the parks in a safe and clean environment.”

The park is littered with rubbish and alcohol bottles which makes it unsafe for children to ride their bikes.

Crime and drinking are abundant in the park and fences or security guards will increase the safety of the area.

Morton stated that, “It is important to call on businesses to contribute to the fencing that will ensure the safety of the children and its visitors.”

Ward 104 councillor Mike Wood said, “We want to take our community parks back, in order to focus on the children. Civic response to the upkeep of the parks is dismal and it demotivates the residents.”

Robinhill Scout Group, led by Linda Peacock, came to help clean up the park for Mandela Day – with children ranging in ages of seven to 11.

Community Sport Services (CSS) were also involved in the cleaning and safety of the park.

Claudia Packman and Solomon Mokhine stated that, “As a community support system that is proactive in preventing crimes, we are here, cleaning up the park for our community to stay safe and clean.”
