Bryanfern Resident’s association praised

RANDBURG – Bryanfern RA applauded by local ward councillor for various work.

RANDBURG – Ward 104 councillor Mike Wood has heaped praise on the Bryanfern Resident’s Association for the work they have done in the community.

The association functions in Ferndale West and Bryanston Ext 3 and in recent months has been responsible for fixing many problems.

“I am indeed very blessed to have this group of people working behind the scenes and making a huge difference in the area,” Wood said.

“Here is a clear indication of a group of people who are making a difference in the Ward.”

The association’s current projects include:

*The repair of a broken fence on the corner of Oxford Street and Eton Avenue, Ferndale.

* Dealing with an open area between the N1 Highway, Jacaranda Avenue and Cedar Street, Bryanston, where many vagrants and recyclers have taken up residence and there is an abundance of litter. There is also a sewer leak here.

* Persuading the South African National Roads Agency (Sanral) to erect a razor-wire fence next to the N1 Highway between Malibongwe Drive and Jacaranda Avenue, Ferndale and Bryanston, which they are currently doing.

* The association worked with Gauteng Government to evict people living in vacant houses on the corner of Rocky Street and Long Avenue, Ferndale. A razor wire fence was erected around the houses and security guards are currently ensuring vagrants do not return.

* Fencing off an open area on the corner of Rocky Street and West Avenue, Ferndale.

* Many vagrants recently moved into the Arboretum at the corner of Cork Avenue and Royal Street, Ferndale, and the association trimmed much of the vegetation to encourage the vagrants to leave. The vagrants did not leave and the association has followed up with the Metro Police.

* Working with Wood to introduce traffic calming measures such as speed humps, traffic lights and traffic circles on streets where speeding is a problem.

“The association is doing well,” said its chairperson, Ian Leo.

“We want to introduce a recycling project in the community soon. We encourage more people to get involved in the association or at lest financially support us.”
