Greenbelt raid nets vagrants

RADIOKOP - Police arrested nine people for bylaw infringement during a raid on 24 June.

Honeydew Police teamed up with other law enforcement agencies to raid greenbelts in the area.

In a joint operation on 24 June, police and security companies ADT, Beagle Watch, Londoloza, SRT, Busicor and Gauteng Security cleaned up spots that were identified to be frequented by vagrants.

Honeydew Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs said they raided these fields because there had been an increase in housebreaking in nearby areas.

The greenbelts raided include the ones adjacent to Opera and Christiaan de Wet roads in Radiokop and the Rabie Street bridge area in Fontainebleau.

The veld on President Fouché Drive and CR Swart Avenue in Kelly Ridge was also on the itinerary.

Police dismantled 13 sleeping areas, arrested nine people for bylaw infringement and detained seven undocumented foreigners.

Jacobs explained that because they often have greenbelt operations, the number of arrests was low. “It could be that most of them have totally moved out of the area,” she said.

The arrested vagrants’ fingerprints were taken to see if they could be linked to any unsolved crimes.
