Man killed and woman injured on R512

JOBURG - ER 24 reports on major incident in Lanseria.

A man was killed and a woman critically injured on 4 June when their vehicle rolled on the R512 highway near Lanseria, Johannesburg.

  1. The story is not quite true.

We were the first respondents on the scene. The woman was thrown from the vehicle and her feet were trapped under the car. The man was upside down and his head was trapped between the supporting pillar and under the roof of the car. He was still breathing but severely laboured. He stopped breathing after 15 seconds of our arrival and after phoning emergency services they cleared us to lift the car. We pleaded with passing motorists who just drove on. It took over a minute to gather enough people to help lift the car and free the man and get the ladies legs out. She was still conscious but the man who was now lying on his back on the roof of the upturned car had passed. He had foam coming out of his nose and ears and the left side of his face was severely crushed. The woman who had head injuries and back injuries also had lacerations on her legs. It took just over 10 minutes for City of JHB Fire department and ambulance who arrive on the scene first and they attended to the lady. They transported her to Life hospital in Fourways.

The cause of the accident and a new plight of mine is the terrible road that narrows to one lane by cutting off the slow lane over a blind rise and ends in a ditch. This is after a long straight down hill where many cars gather too much speed and people who do not know the road end up having an accident or swerving severely. The road is between provinces. Between Gauteng and the North West and if you drive the road, you will see the NO MANS LAND. Municipalities in the area claim no responsibility for the state of the road. If you want a story, that is the story to tell.

A man died and left behind an 18 month old daughter and a critically injured wife. This is not a place for the likes of ER 24 for gaining free advertising for arriving late and lay claim to exceptional service. This angers me. Rather thank you to the City of Johannesburg fire department and medics who were the first to respond to our call for help.
