Pikitup secures land for Bloubosrand

BLOUBOSRAND - Ward 96 councillor Matome Mafokwane is happy with the work done by Pikitup.

Ward 96 councillor Matome Mafokwane is happy with the work done by Pikitup in the Bloubosrand community to secure land for the purpose of it being used only by the community.

According to Mafokwane, the corner of Riverbend Road and Vloot Street used to be a dumpsite before being closed off. He applauded the community of Bloubosrand for working with him on having the land cleared and secured by Pikitup, who funded the fencing project which was worth R2 million.

“The residents had discussions with the City of Joburg to have the area cleaned up and secured. They had started these negotiations long before I became their councillor and now have their land protected,” said Mafokwane.

Pikitup hired a contractor to put a fence around the land in January to prevent illegal dumping and stop criminals from using it to rob people.

Mafokwane said although there had been some difficulties to get the fence completed before the end of May, he is thankful to city council for completing their task. He hopes that the land that has been secured will be used by the community for the community. “Pikitup has further invested R3.6 million on the land to beautify it and make it presentable to the community and those who are keen to make something of this land,” he explained.

“My job as the councillor is to make sure that Pikitup sticks to the promise to clean the land and to assist the community in any way possible,” he added.

Mafokwane urges the local businessmen and -women and any resident with any creative ideas to make use of the now secured land and turn it into a community recreation centre of some sort, to contact him.
