The Charity Store opens in Fontainebleau

FONTAINEBLEAU - The Charity Stores sell second-hand items for next to nothing, to fund its sustainability programme.

The Charity Stores, which sells second-hand goods at next to nothing has been opened in Fontainebleau Village Shopping Centre. This new chain store sells items which have been donated by the public, to fund its local sustainability programme, within the Randburg community.

Robert Miller, CEO of the Charity Stores, said the intention of this store is to help people and support local communities with necessities.

“We intend to create public awareness about problems that exist in our community which are not being addressed by local authorities,” stated Miller, “such as the elderly and children going hungry or even needing blanket to keep them warm during the upcoming winter months.”

He added that the shop seeks to support other non-profit organisations (NPO) within the local community. According to Miller, most items including the collectables, are priced far below market prices to ensure that there is something for everyone’s budget and that the community in the area, benefits as well. He further said the stock changes are done on a daily basis depending on what was donated the day before.

“It’s is not uncommon for regular customers to pop in everyday, making sure that they find a wanted item before someone else does. We always have a need for items such as clothing, linen, books, ornaments, paintings, furniture, glassware, toys and silverware,” explained Miller.

He added that donations are always welcomed and collections are done by arrangement. Miller said some of their existing charities include the Sparrow Ministries which is 40 bed hospice and orphan’s home for 200 children, as well as the Wamkelekile Organisation, which cares for child-headed households in Orange Farm.
