A love for animals

Klarika Nettleton loves animals more than people.

Bloubosrand resident and animal activist Klarika Nettleton regularly hands out food for animals in Cosmo City.

“I respect everybody as God’s creation but informal settlements should not exist because animals suffer horribly,” she expressed.

Nettleton is a member of the Bloubosrand Community Forum and has taken personal responsibility for animal welfare within the Bloubosrand community and surrounding areas.

“I help animals where I can and teach children and adults to become humane individuals. I am not better than anybody else, I was just fortunate enough to be taught by my family from the age of three to respect everybody and everything.”

She also donated shampoo and other products to residents to help them take care of their animals. And she taught the residents, including the children, how to apply these products.

It upsets her when she sees animals that suffer. “Animals are my equal – their love, loyalty and devotion can hardly be matched by humans, and they are highly intelligent as well. We need a humane society in this country and education on animals should start at home and be carried out in schools.”

Nettleton said her “number one love” had always been animals.

“The disgraceful treatment of animals is the root cause of increasing brutality amongst humans. I would welcome committed persons who are willing to help.”
