Six computer hacks you won’t believe you didn’t know

Need a few shortcuts when working on your computer? Here are some interesting tips to keep in mind.

  1. When you work a lot on your PC and the web browser is your primary tool, opening new tabs is something you do countless times during the day. Instead of doing it manually with your mouse, press “ctrl” and the letter T and a new tab will open. If you are using a MacBook, you will press “command” instead of “ctrl.”

  1. If you need a currency converter, you can write down the amount of money and the currencies of the country where you’re travelling in Google search.

  1. A laptop battery charges faster when in airplane mode as many features like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are disabled. This takes some pressure off your battery and allows it to charge 10 to 15 minutes faster.

  1. You can download Google images automatically by pressing alt and clicking on it. Most people right-click on images and select the “save” option, but there is a much easier and faster way to download a photo on your computer. You can simply push “alt” and then left-click on an image and it will save automatically in your downloads folder. On a MacBook, press control and click on the image; it will give you a drop-down menu where you can select Copy Image.

  1. If you’re having problems with your computer’s speed, it might be that your desktop is too full of icons. Instead of having a folder for every little thing, create one and organise everything in there. Put your apps in the taskbar and you’ll be left with an almost empty desktop, which will maximise your computer’s speed.

  1. Millions of people get hacked every day. Here are the warning signs you can look out for:
  • Seeing your antivirus has been turned off
  • When you try to log in and your password doesn’t work
  • The cursor moves on its own.
