New BMW M4 Competition Convertible confirmed for SA

The BMW M4 Competition Convertible will launch in Mzansi in the fourth quarter of the year.

BMW is adding another model in the new M4 range in the form of the Competition Convertible variant that will launch in Mzansi in the fourth quarter of the year.

According to BMW, the soft top is 40 per cent lighter than the rooftop spawned by the previous M4. It can be opened or closed in 18 seconds.

Speaking of space, the luggage space has been expanded by 80 litres more than the previous M4 Convertible.

The new BMW M4 Competition Convertible is powered by the same S58 twin-turbo 3.0-litre inline-six engine that powers the range. The engine produces 375 kW and 650 Nm of torque and uses an 8-speed M Steptronic transmission that sends power to both axles via the M xDrive system.

It hurdles from a standstill to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds before hitting the top speed at 250 km/h or 280 km/h with the M driver’s package. For reference sake, the M4 Coupe completes the same task in 3.5 seconds.

The new M4 Competition Convertible spawns three-shift programs; 4WD, 4WD Sport and 2WD as well as an Active M Differential. An optional M Drive Professional can be had. This package adds M Traction Control with a ten-stage adjustment of wheel slip limitation, M Drift Analyser and M Laptimer.

Stopping prowess comes courtesy of standard M Compound brakes – carbo ceramic brakes can be ordered as an option. It rides on forged M light-alloy wheels that measure 19 inches at the front and 20 inches at the rear as standard.
