All-new affordable Agya launches in SA, we have prices

The all-new Toyota Agya is based on the Daihatsu Ayla and it essentially replaces the Aygo.

Toyota South Africa has launched its entry-level Agya tyke that is formed through a collaboration with Daihatsu Motor Company.

The all-new Toyota Agya is based on the Daihatsu Ayla and it essentially replaces the Aygo.

For the record, the name Agya translates to ‘fast’. Standard features include ABS with EBD, 14-inch alloy wheels shod with 175-65-R14 tyres, driver and passenger airbags as well as the option of an automatic transmission.

The exterior comes fitted with a 3D front bumper, curving projector headlights, colour-coded door handles and a roof-mounted rear spoiler plus LED rear lights. There are electrically retractable mirrors that integrate an indicator lens.

Inside, there is power steering and automatic air conditioning (climate control), key trip information is conveyed to the driver via a Multi-Information Display, while all passengers enjoy the luxury of electrically operated windows; and an auxiliary 12-volt socket is on hand for charging additional mobile devices.

Powering up the Agya experience is a Push Start button and remote central locking. The suspension is configured as standard-for-the-segment McPherson struts at the front and a torsion beam axle at the rear.

The Agya is powered a 998cc, three-cylinder with 49 kW and 89 Nm plus a five-speed manual transmission or a four-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the front axle.

It sprints from a standstill to 100 km/h in 14.6 seconds en route to a top speed of 165 km/h.

The automatic version gets the same job done in 16.3 seconds before hitting the limiter at 145 km/h. According to Toyota, the new Agya returns 4.8 l/100 km in manual guise and 4.9l/100km for the automatic version.

On so-equipped models, the Agya’s double-DIN touchscreen multimedia unit features CD, Bluetooth, auxiliary and USB connectivity.

An optional touchscreen audio system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality will be available to customers as a dealer-fitted option.

All models are prepared for the use of Toyota Connect, which provides Wi-Fi connectivity to smart devices as well as a host of connected online services; and 15Gb of complimentary data.
