Dragons and Titans slug it out on entertaining first day

A century from Titans' Dewald Brevis and a five-wicket haul for NW Dragons spinner, Senuran Muthusamy, were some of the highlights on an interesting days play at the J.B. Marks Oval.

Thirteen wickets fell on a pulsating first day of cricket in the CSA Division 1 4-Day Series match between the North West Dragons and the Titans at the J.B. Marks Oval yesterday (Thursday, 21 December)

The Titans batted first and made 265 all out on a pitch that seemed to be quite friendly for batting on a scorching day.

The Titans were cruising on 83/1 at one stage with their captain, Neil Brand (72 off 168 balls), in fine form.

Migael Pretorius (1/21) dismissed Brand and that started a collapse as soon they were 167/6. The left-arm spin of Senuran Muthusamy (5/79) and off-spin of Wihan Lubbe (2/25) did most of the damage.

The talented, Dewald Brevis, scored his second first class century of his career with a new high score of 113 (121 balls).

In reply, the Dragons stuttered to 21/3 with Grant Mokoena (1), Raynard van Tonder (2) and Lesiba Ngoepe all back in the dressing room.

Wihan Lubbe (15 off 16 balls) and Lesego Senokwane (23 off 52 balls) will continue on day 2 today (Friday, 22 December) with Dragons on 48/3.

The Dragons trail by 216 runs and will need to show fight in the morning session as they aim to chase down the target.
