Two NW Dragons players, Ruan de Swardt and Raynard van Tonder, showed their talent with top performances for SA “A” during the second unofficial test against West Indies A at Buffalo Park in East London from 28 November – 1 December.
SA A stormed to a 232-run win on the back of a century from Keegan Petersen (112*) as well as the spin bowling from Dane Piedt who took match-figures of 11-129. Petersen also scored 64 in the first innings.
De Swardt and Van Tonder both missed out on selection for the first SA A test, which the West Indies won by 1 wicket at Willowmore Park in Benoni.
Van Tonder made the most of his opportunity and scored an accomplished 50
off 86 balls, which included 9 fours.
He was caught and bowled shortly after reaching his half-century by West Indies A bowler, Jair
McAllister. In the second innings, Van Tonder scored another half-century with 56
De Swardt also stepped up with the bat in the first innings, hitting 42 (75) which included seven
boundaries.
De Swardt also hit 29* in the second innings and took the key wicket of Tagenarine Chanderpaul for a duck in the second innings.
The third and final test is on 5 – 8 December at the Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein.
