In one of the most gruelling races on the South African Rally Raid Championship calendar, the Potchefstroom-based Crew 812 team finished in a superb ninth place overall last weekend.

The Toyota Gazoo Racing 1000 Kalahari Desert Race was the third round in this year’s championship and took place in dusty conditions in Jwaneng, Botswana, from 23 to 25 June. Dewald van Breda (driver) and Stompie Mynhardt (navigator) pushed the two-wheel-drive CR6 into 9th place overall and fifth in the FIA class in an overall time of 12:23:18.

The time was calculated from two races across the weekend. The duo also put in a very decent qualifying time of 00:38:29. Overall, Gareth Woolridge and Boyd Dreyer claimed the win in their NWM Ford Castrol T1+ Ranger at 11:14:33.

Their teammates, Lance Woolridge and Kenny Gilbert, finished second at 11:18:15. Gareth and Lance are brothers and sons of their legendary father, Neil Woolridge, who also won the same race two decades earlier. Next up for Van Breda and Crew812 is the Parys 400, which will take place in two rounds (4 and 5) from 18 to 19 August 2023.
