Video: Premier League club presents exciting training session for Saints footballers

This was a fantastic opportunity for Saints' learners to receive expert coaching and advice from top UK coaches involved with AFC Bournemouth.

The English Premier League club, AFC Bournemouth, arrived at Saints Christian School in Potchefstroom on Monday, 5 June, to a warm welcome. Six coaches from AFC Bournemouth’s Community Sports Trust, including AFC Bournemouth’s head of community, Steve Cuss, initiated a training session at THS Potchefstroom in the afternoon.

AFC Bournemouth ended the 2022/23 season in 15th place in the English Premier League and is one of the top-performing football teams in England. Saints Christian School CEO Ché Williams, and Saints sport coordinator, Claudio Lucas, travelled to Bournemouth during March-April, where they participated in training sessions at Ringwood Community Hub 3G pitch and acquainted themselves with the different aspects of the Premier League club.

As part of a continued partnership, AFC Bournemouth made the return trip to SA this month. 120 aspiring football players took part in this training session on Monday, six coaches from the Future Stars Academy and five coaches from Saints Christian School were present. This was a fantastic opportunity for Saints’ learners to receive expert coaching and advice from top UK coaches involved with AFC Bournemouth. The main aim of this day was to enhance the skills, technique, and overall football abilities of aspiring players. Williams said he was excited that Saints’ learners could have the privilege of learning from these full-time coaches.

“It is a huge honour and privilege for us to have this connection with AFC Bournemouth,” he added. Cuss also expressed his excitement about travelling back to Saints Christian School this year after a successful first visit in 2022.
