Former pro footballers give back to the youth

“We want the former PSL players to give back to schools in their area and teach the youth about the positive impact of sports.

The Mackenzie Foundation hosted a PSL Soccer Legends event at Ikageng Stadium on Saturday, 5 March. The aim of the event was to use sports as a tool to promote healthy lifestyle choices and get youth away from drugs and other illegal activities.

“We want the former PSL players to give back to schools in their area and teach the youth about the positive impact of sports. It will be based on the programme in the school,” stated the organiser of the event, Bazooka Mackenzie.

Among the players present on the day were Lucky Xaba, Steve Lekoelea and Thabiso Rammile. “I want the former players to tell the kids about their own struggles and how to use sport to overcome them. Many of these former players know about the different roads that lead to bankruptcy and alcoholism and they can teach the youth not to make these mistakes and rather turn away from it,” added Mackenzie.

Numerous teams in the area, from u.17 to masters age level, took part in matches on the day. The main event saw Potchefstroom Legends taking on Sebokeng Legends. Sebokeng ended up winning 3–1 to end a fun-filled day.
