Dragons’ semi-final hopes hang by a thread

The Dragons now have one more match tomorrow against hosts the Warriors. A win could cement a fourth spot finish in the tournament if the Dolphins lose against WP tomorrow.

It was a desperately disappointing day for the North West Dragons in the CSA T20 Cup today (Tuesday, 22 February) as their semi-final hopes were dented by the Titans with a 33 run loss at St George’s Park.

This was the Dragons’ fourth defeat in a row after starting the tournament brightly with two wins.

The Dragons batsmen struggled to reach the Titans target of 167/4 and only managed 134/7 in reply. A superb 54 from Titans and Proteas batsman, Heinrich Klaasen was enough to pave the way to a good defendable score.

One of the highlights of the day was seeing the 37-year old Heino Kuhn, leaping into the air, goalkeeper-style, to take a superb catch at mid-off to dismiss the dangerous Quinton de Kock off Eldred Hawken’s bowling.

The NW Dragons’ chase did not get off to the best start as power hitter, Wesley Marshall, was run out for 6. No Dragons batsman could anchor the innings as only Lesego Senokwane with 32 showed resistance. Senuran Muthusamy on his birthday, was the pick of the Dragons bowlers with figures of 2/14 in four overs.

A win could cement a fourth spot finish in the tournament if the Dolphins lose against WP tomorrow. The Warriors are also in with a shot if they win and the Dolphins lose.

A three way battle for the final semi-final place awaits tomorrow!
