Pretorius and Potgieter’s heroics not enough as Dragons lose in Super Over

Pretorius showed his international experience with a brilliantly crafted knock which gave him the man of the match award in a losing effort.

The North West Dragons lost their third match of the CSA T20 Cup against the Boland Rocks by the finest of margins after losing a Super Over eliminator.

In what is the match of the competition thus far, both teams were tied on 182 with sixes raining down in both innings.

The NW Dragons pair of Delano Potgieter (37 off 27) and Dwaine Pretorius (74 off 51) put on an unbeaten stand of 102 in a thrilling chase. Pretorius showed his international experience with a brilliantly crafted knock which gave him the man of the match award in a losing effort.

The Dragons needed five to win off the final ball and Pretorius obliged with a four off the final ball. The lottery of the super over fell into the hands of the Rocks this time around as former Dragons batsman, Janneman Malan hit two fours off Duan Jansen to hit the needed seven runs.

Pretorius and Potgieter could not repeat their heroics in the super over as a run out and a wicket ended their hopes. Boland Rocks bowler, Ferisco Adams kept his nerve in both the final over of the Dragons’ innings as well as the super over. 

Earlier on the Boland Rocks scored 182/6 thanks to Pieter Malan’s 53 (46) and Christiaan Jonker’s quick fire 37 (19).

NW Dragons best bowlers were Potgieter (1/10) in 2 overs and spinner Caleb Seleka with 2/20 in four overs.

The NW Dragons now need to regroup ahead of their next match against Western Province, who are yet to be beaten in the T20 Cup. The match starts Tuesday, 15 February at 14:30.
