Former Dragons and NWU batsman receives top ICC award

Janneman Malan has been named the ICC Emerging Men’s Cricketer of the Year at the 2021 ICC (International Cricket Council) Awards.

The former North West Dragons and NWU batsman, Janneman Malan (25) has achieved one of the highest cricketing honours in world cricket.

The Proteas opener has been named the ICC Emerging Men’s Cricketer of the Year at the 2021 ICC (International Cricket Council) Awards.

The 2017 Varsity Cricket winner with the NWU, boasts 715 runs in 17 international matches at an average of 47.66 and a strike rate of 101.85, with two centuries and three half-centuries in green and gold.

His 177 not out against Ireland was the fourth highest score by a South African, followed by an exceptional knock of 121 in Colombo against Sri Lanka a few weeks later. He also hit a superb 91 in the second ODI against India this past Friday.

“It’s a big honour and privilege to be named the emerging cricketer of the year’s especially as the nominees are also talented cricketers,” stated Malan.

He also mentioned that awards are motivating to a player and thanks everyone who was past of his greater support system.

“I’m very blessed to be able to play for my country. I have a world class support system. I am lucky to have two cricket playing brothers (Pieter and André) who I can touch base with. We all support each other so it’s good to have that in place,” he added.
