Dragons women claim hat-trick of wins in CSA Provincial One Day Tournament

The Senwes North West Dragons women showcased their fire this week at the CSA Provincial One Day tournament in Johannesburg at St. Stithians with three superb victories against Kwa-Zulu Natal Coastal, Easterns and Western Province.

The opening encounter against KZN Coastal saw a top bowling performance restrict their opposition to only 146 all out after 42 overs. Here, Evodia Yekile took 2/21 in 10 overs and teenager, Nthabiseng Nini, claimed figures of 3/25 in 6 overs. Izel Cilliers’ unbeaten 66* and Tazmin Brits’ 63 laid a solid foundation for the first wicket partnership of 94.

Cilliers then guided her side to a 6-wicket victory. The next match against Easterns was a demolition of note with the Dragons completing a 236-run victory. Senwes Dragons compiled 322/7 in their 50 overs thanks to a stunning 106 (76) from Brits and an accomplished 76 (64) from Masabata Klaas.

Anica Swart also kept the ball rolling with a 45* (48). The Dragons bowlers truly cashed in to dismiss Easterns for only 86. Alyssa Erxleben took 4/13 with the ball. The toughest clash for the NW Dragons women thus far was the match against Western Province.

Here, the Dragons managed to pull off a 5 wicket (DL) win after the match was shortened due to rain. The Dragons bowlers did well to restrict the Western Province women to 201/9.

Sune Wittman (4/35) was the pick of the bowlers for the Dragons. WP’s Faye Tunnicliffe scored a fantastic 77 to keep the women from Cape Town in the game. The Dragons managed to get to the victory target with Brits going past 50 for the third consecutive match. Her 82 was invaluable to the cause.

The Dragons next play the Lions on Wednesday, 28 October and Northerns on Thursday, 29 October.
