Creative ways to practice sport during lockdown

There are numerous creative ways to stay in shape, work on your skills and practice the basics of your sport.

During the current lockdown restriction it is virtually impossible to truly play a team sport or practice sport in its entirety.

Still, there are numerous creative ways to stay in shape, work on your skills and practice the basics of your sport.

Gholf

  • Practice your putting in the hall or any large room in your house or yard. Use an empty tin can as a makeshift hole.
  • Practice your bunker shots with sand if available. You can also use loose dirt in your garden if available to create a platform.

Rugby, Hockey and Football

  • Practice various drills by kicking or passing the ball into the wall and catching it on the rebound.
  • Use cones as defenders or opposition and practice side-stepping or close ball control.
  • Depending on the size of your yard, you can create makeshift goal posts against a wall with empty bottles, cans, wood etc.

Cricket

  • Practice your close catching by throwing the ball onto a wall or using specific coaching drills if you have a family member present to throw the ball to you.
  • Tie a cricket ball onto a rope and practice shot with a hanging ball from a swing or pole/post in your garden.

Table tennis

  • Table tennis is essentially an indoor sport but you can practice by hitting the wall at the opposite end of the table.

Netball

  • Practice passing by placing markers on a wall trying to hit them. This is to practice your aim and accuracy of your passing.
  • You can also bounce the ball against a wall to practice your catching.
