One on One: Bokamoso Setshoaro

“Practice is where you start your journey to greatness. If you train like a beast, you will play like a beast,”

One of THS Potchefstroom’s top football players is, without doubt, the talented fleet-footed winger, Bokamoso Setshoaro. Setshoaro is known by his teammates as Max Sané, after the Manchester City winger, Leroy Sané, who also causes havoc on the wing.

While Bokamoso is not yet in the Man City star’s class, he sure knows how to sparkle when he hits the football field. His love for soccer is unmatched and his hard work and determination, despite his short stature, are some of the keys to his success.

“I started playing football at the age of five when I joined Tlokwe Youth Development FC in Ikageng. I grew up in Ikageng and football has always been in my veins. Lionel Messi was my hero growing up. I always thought he wasn’t that tall, either, but still had all the best skills. So, I looked to model a part of my game after him,” explains Bokamoso.

This young talent had already wowed the local football fraternity when he won the Build It u.13 competition’s player of the tournament award in 2014. He was also named the best footballer at Promosa Primary and continued to rack up the awards in high school.

“I still feel that my height and smaller stature can be a disadvantage at times, as I am not that strong physically. I have been to trials at Premier Soccer League clubs like Mamelodi Sundowns and Bloemfontein Celtic and size was an issue then. I will continue to improve and practise to achieve my goals,” he says.

Bokamoso can shoot with both feet and plays on the right or left wing up front. This is where he uses his greatest attri- bute – speed – to full effect.
“Practice is where you start your journey to greatness. If you train like a beast, you will play like a beast,” ended the confident footballer. He will undoubtedly go on to make a name for himself in North West’s footballing landscape.
