USSA cycling success for NWU

“My goal for the tour was to finish in the top 10 and I finished eighth, I also aimed for a top-five on the mountain bike and got the third place. I’m happy with how my tour went because it was my first USSA week,” said a satisfied Van Eeden.

Two Potchefstroomers, Kristen Louw and Brendan van Eeden, showcased their class and talent for the NWU USSA Cycling team with a couple of superb podium places this past month.

Louw, a former Volkie, and Van Eeden, a former Gimmie, did their utmost for the purple-clad team with a couple of brilliant rides.
Louw took third place in the long stage category, the hill climb and the MTB section. She also ended in the sixth place in the short stage. Overall, she took fourth place on the general classification section. Van Eeden took third in the MTB section, fourth in the short stage and an overall eighth place in the general classification standings.

“My goal for the tour was to finish in the top 10 and I finished eighth, I also aimed for a top-five on the mountain bike and got the third place. I’m happy with how my tour went because it was my first USSA week,” said a satisfied Van Eeden.

“I’d like to build more experience in road bike races so I can read the race better and become a stronger rider,” he added.
“We learnt a lot and enjoyed every moment – a shout out to NWU (North-West University) for the great opportunity and all our great sponsors. Without your support, this tour would not have been possible. Thank you to our Saviour for keeping us safe every minute throughout this amazing experience,” stated the NWU Cycling team manager and captain, Nicolene Marais.
